A room thermostat cannot be chosen at random, it’s important to ask the right questions.

1- The location

The thermostat has to control the heating system in your home or network. It’s crucial to determine its location.

It cannot be placed near a source of heat, or in a cold area. Avoid to set up it next to a heater radiator, flat screen TV, a fireplace, a window, behind a door or at least at 20cm from an opening.

It must be placed at around 1.50 meter from the ground, in the main living room.

If the current location of your thermostat is wrong, you must know that solutions exist with radio thermostats (see example with the reference code 656190). Radio thermostats enable you to move your thermostat where you want, without regular wired connectivity.

2- Programming

The room thermostat controls the temperature for a better comfort. It allows to do energy savings. One additional degree in heating means 7% of additional consumption.

You have the choice between two types of thermostat :

  • Simple or manual thermostat: you can regulate the feeding temperatura, on demand
  • Programmable thermostat: you can regulate the feeding temperatura, depending on
    • You are or you are not at home
    • Your activity : less heating during the night

A programable thermostat, if it’s well regulated, enables high energy savings and provides a better confort. You set up the program once and then it regulates the temperatura, by its own.

3- The power supply

There are several types of power supply for programable thermostats.

  • Power supply with batteries: 2 wires to connect the thermostat
  • 230V power supply: 4 wires to connect the thermostat (2 wires for the contactor and 2 wires for the power supply)
  • Radio thermostat : no wire for the transmitter (thermostat screen) and 4 wires for the receiver (2 wires for the contactor and 2 wires for the power supply)
