The hot water found in the sanitary facilities may cause risks of abrasions. A low temperature management may also cause some outbreaks of legionellosis, a dangerous, sometimes life-threatening disease.

To avoid any burning or contamination risk, the Ministry of Health prescribes the master of temperature for sanitary hot waters systems.

The domestic hot water is a heated water network for domestic and sanitary use. The domestic hot water is principally used inside the sanitary appliances like showers, baths and sinks.

The domestic hot water is produced at a temperature of 55°. The water can be heated thanks to a water-heater (or cumulus), through a dedicated heating-circuit (i.e. Combined boiler) or through renewable energies equipments like the solar thermal collectors.

The order of 30 November 2005 modifying the order of 23 June 1978 relating to fixed installations for heating and domestic hot water supplies in residential buildings, work premises and buildings receiving the general public states that:

  • The hot water temperature of sinks, showers, baths… must be less or equal to 50°C to avoid risks of abrasions.
  • The temperature must be equal or above to 55°C in the DHW production output.
  • For the DHW networks received by the project owner after 15 December 2006, the temperature must be equal or above to 50°C in the distribution network, including the feedback circuit.

If you want to record daily temperatures of your tap, The Regional Health Agency (RHA) recommends to record in the middle of the afternoon (around 15h) in order to obtain the representative temperatures of the normal functioning of the domestic hot water network.

To record daily temperatures, please use the dedicated thermometers!

« To reconcile the temperature objectives for the distribution network and the using dots, it is necessary to install a blocking temperature system (thermostatic valve, mixer tap between the supply column and the terminal channelling, mixing valve) in the toilet rooms » clarifies the Regional Health Agency (l’RHA).
