As the anode is in immersion in your water heater, it is compulsory to flush it. We advise you to replace the resistance gasket and the pressure relief valve at the same time.

To replace it, you need :

  • A Screwdriver
  • A pliers crescent wrench
  • A seal 20/27
  • A PTFE tape
  • A basin
  • A wipe
  • A glove
  • A garden hose with its female connection plug 20/27

Steps to be followed:

  • One day before your intervention, cut off the water heater power supply before taking a shower. You will completely drain the hot water to avoid any risk of burning during your intervention.
  • Shut down the water valve then open your hot faucet to break the pressure into the water heater. The water must stop running. If not, your valve is not waterproof and you need to replace it
  • Turn the pressure relief valve and let it open
  • Remove the pressure relief valve nut and unscrew it a few turns. You have 2 solutions :
  • The first one, the most advised, is to let the water heat drain out before unscrewing the pressure relief valve: it may takes several hours.
  • For the second solution, take an additional basin
  • Unscrew slowly the pressure relief valve until the flow stops. When you remove the pressure relief valve some water may run intermittently
  • Screw the fitting and the garden hose which you unrolled to an evacuation
  • Open the protective cover and disconnect it electrically
  • Remove the resistance’s gasket. Clean the vessel bottom inside to timescale deposits.
  • Unscrew the anode and replace it.
  • Install at the same time: the resistance, the anode and the new gasket. Tighten the parts cross-Wise"
  • Remove the former TPFE tape
  • Put the new TPFE tape clockwise.
  • Your seal has to be thick to be waterproof
  • Screw the pressure relief valve as the former one
  • Install the new gasket and tighten the nut
  • Turn your hot water faucets off
  • Open the valve slowly and check if there’s any leak again.
  • If there’s any sign of leaks, you can totally open the valve
  • Open your faucets in float position
  • Once the water heater air’s out, close your faucets and check if there’s any leak again.
  • Install and connect electrically the thermostat
  • Close the protection cover
  • Don’t forget to turn on the water heater power supply and put your DSC relay in “Force Armed” to get hot water. The DSC relay will switch automatically on the next use.
